Lipitor® – known generically as atorvastatin – is prescribed to reduce “bad” cholesterol and triglycerides. Unfortunately, many postmenopausal women who were prescribed the medication developed type 2 diabetes, prompting national class actions against the drug manufacturer Pfizer.
If you or a loved one developed diabetes while on this medication, George Sink, P.A. Injury Lawyers can build and manage your case. Our South Carolina Lipitor® lawsuit lawyers will seek compensation for your medical bills and other related expenses.

What’s the Case Against Pfizer?
Lipitor® is in a class of drugs called “statins” that the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has long warned can raise blood sugar levels. The FDA approved Lipitor® in 1996, and more than 29 million people have been prescribed the medication since that time.
The drug is still on the market today, although there have been reported issues with other statins causing diabetes. A drug called Baycol, for example, was taken off the market in 2001 because it increased the likelihood of diabetes.
Claimants Allege That The Prescription Drug Causes Type 2 Diabetes
A 2008 study published in The Lancet first reported that statins like Lipitor® could increase the risk of diabetes by 9 percent. Despite this information, there was no warning label put on the medication.
A 2015 study of Lipitor® specifically revealed that the drug increased the likelihood of type 2 diabetes by 46 percent in the patients studied – but only recently has Pfizer placed warnings on its medication.
Claimants allege that because Pfizer did not issue warning labels on its medications, they developed long-term health conditions. If you or a loved one has developed type 2 diabetes after taking Lipitor® to control cholesterol, you can recover compensation for your medical bills, lost income, and pain and suffering.
Pfizer Has a History of Releasing Defective Products
Releasing Lipitor® without sufficient warning labels isn’t Pfizer’s first legal battle. Per the U.S. Department of Justice, in 2009, Pfizer paid billions after falsely advertising Bextra, which was pulled from the market in 2005.
The FDA declined to approve the product. However, Pfizer marketed the drug as being safe for off-label use. It was ordered to pay $1.3 billion in damages after being found guilty of felony charges.
We know that it’s intimidating to go up against a multi-billion-dollar company. That’s where our South Carolina Lipitor® lawyers come in. We have no problem staring down mega-corporations – and we’ve done so successfully in the past. With us on your side, you don’t have to worry about anything.
