Attorney George Sink, Sr.:
The South Carolina Workers' Compensation Commission is very important, composed of seven members who are each appointed by the governor, and then approved by the legislature to serve a term of six years. Initial determinations in workers' compensation matters are not tried by a court system in South Carolina.
It's the commissioners who preside over the workers’ compensation hearing and decide disputed issues, such as the employee's liability and the extent of the employee's disability. If the employee or the employer has not agreed with the commissioners' ruling, either party can appeal the decision. Please feel free to call us at George Sink Injury Lawyers at any time.
