Attorney George Sink, Sr.:
You may be wondering, "What is Social Security Disability? How do I know if I qualify?"
Attorney Alan Kennington:
Social Security has two programs that provides benefits based on disability. Social Security Disability, or SSD, is financed by taxes we pay while working. To qualify for this type of benefit, a person must have sufficient credits earned as a result of taxable work.
An individual typically must have worked five out of the last 10 years to be eligible. There are some other allowances for younger persons who have not been in the workforce quite so long. In some cases, some individuals may not qualify for SSD benefits. In those situations, Supplemental Security Income may be an option for you.
