Initial Application

When you submit an application for Social Security Disability benefits, you may need to be able to show that you have a “medically determinable physical or mental impairment” that is terminal or has lasted (or will last) for at least 12 months.

You may also have to be able to show that your impairment prevents you from performing substantial gainful activity, which the Social Security Administration (SSA) generally defines as making more than $1,260 for a disabled individual or $2,110 for a blind individual.
