Yet another crash has been blamed on self-driving technology. The wreck, which occurred just two days after U.S. regulators announced that they were investigating the first death in a car wreck caused by a car in self-driving mode, involved a Tesla Model X.
The crash occurred about 100 miles outside of Pittsburgh. According to the police report, the driver had activated the autopilot feature just before the vehicle hit a right-side guard rail, causing the vehicle to cross both lanes of traffic, slam into a concrete median, and flip onto its roof. Miraculously, all passengers in the vehicle survived the accident. It is worth mentioning that the area in which the driver engaged the autopilot is known for being difficult to navigate.
Only one week ago, a man was killed after his Tesla Model S slammed into a truck while in self-driving mode. The man is reported to have been watching a movie in the car when the accident occurred.
New Car Technology Isn’t Errorproof
Even the most advanced technology isn’t perfect. These accidents involving Teslas are unfortunately only the beginning of the many accidents that will surely occur involving new self-driving technology.
