Have you been denied Social Security?
That's what happened to a 73-year-old Walmart greeter from St. Petersburg, Florida.
The Walmart greeter's life was changed in a split-second reaction. As reported in the Tampa Bay Times, the greeter was fired after grabbing onto a customer's sweater in an attempt to keep from falling.
The incident happened following a brief disagreement when Jan Sullivan, the greeter, attempted to keep a customer from exiting through the entrance path of the store. The customer demanded to leave the store through the entrance and pushed her. In an attempt to keep from falling, Sullivan grabbed the customer's sweater. The customer then stomped out of the store.
About an hour later, a manager on duty, who had seen the incident on the security video, called Sullivan into the office regarding the incident. She was suspended and told to leave the property. Three days later she was called back in and fired.
According to Walmart policy, employees are not allowed to touch customers under any circumstances.
Following the incident, Sullivan has been denied Social Security benefits because of termination for "misconduct."
