In a news release, the South Carolina Department of Public Safety (SCDPS) reported that there have been 533 deaths on the state's roadways this year, an increase over the 526 reported at the same time last year.
According to the SCDPS, there have been 14 more pedestrian deaths in South Carolina this year as well as 11 more motorcyclist deaths than last year at the same time. Anderson County is seeing the highest levels of traffic-related deaths they've seen in more than three years. The SCPDS is determined to staunch these events by increasing their presence on the road. Anderson County Sheriff's Office spokesman Chad McBride said, "Of the 28 traffic fatalities we've had in Anderson County, eight of them have been related to DUI-related incidents. We want to let folks know that we are going to be out there and with force and get a designated driver."
Data from the SCDPS indicates that Charleston County is the leader in traffic deaths in the state with 35, which is up from last year's 33 at this time as well.
As a Charleston car accident lawyer , I am aware of these increases in our state. In my years as a car accident lawyer , I've seen the devastating effects that these accidents can have and I implore everyone to drive cautiously in the effort of keeping everyone safe on our roads.
