Chrysler is extending a recall on its 2008 minivans due to an issue with the airbags, according to news reports.
Chrysler is recalling 299,718 2008 minivans because the airbags could be faulty. Chrysler said the vehicles included in the recall are the2008 Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
"These vehicles may experience a heating and air-conditioner (HVAC) condensate leak from the HVAC drain grommet onto the occupant restraint control module, which can lead to the illumination of the airbag warning light and a potential inadvertent airbag deployment without warning," said NHTSA in its recalls summary of the problem. "An inadvertent airbag deployment could result in injury to the seat occupant in front of the deploying airbag and/or a vehicle crash."
Thankfully, no car accidents or personal injuries have been reported in connection to this recall. There have also been no reports of an inadvertent airbag deployment on a vehicle that had the prior recall completed, according to news reports.
Chrysler previously recalled the Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan in November 2010 recall on 367,350 Chrysler minivans, according to news reports.
