Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans are being recalled because their passenger side air bag could deploy even without being in a car accident.
Chrysler told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that a water leak from an improperly assembled air conditioning drain could allow water to leak on the carpet and inadvertently cause airbag deployments. The automaker said "it knew of the leak early in 2008 and that 'over time' it had reports of 'some inadvertent air bag deployments.'" Chrysler was later able to connect the airbag problem to the water leak, according to news reports .
Nearly 367,000 2008 Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans are affected by the recall.
As a North Charleston personal injury lawyer , I find it interesting that Chrysler did not make clear in the outbreak when they discovered the deployment problem or how many reports of the faulty airbags it received. The company just said there was a "spike" in the number of complaints from July to September. I hope they are able to fix this problem before any injuries are reported.
On Tuesday, Chrysler recalled 76,000 Dodge Rams because of a faulty brake pedal that could cause a car accident .
