Volkswagen is recalling five models of vehicles from the past five years because of an incorrectly manufactured fuel line that could result in a fire.
The vehicles included in the recall are:
- 2007-09 Golf
- 2007-09 Jetta
- 2007-09 Jetta Sportwagen
- 2006-10 New Beetle
- 2007-09 Rabbit
Volkswagen said the problem is the result of a small plastic tab on the wiper fluid reservoir that is improperly placed, allowing it to rub against a fuel line. The friction could cause a fuel leak and develop into a fire.
Approximately 377,000 vehicles with the 2.5-liter 5-cylinder engine are affected by the recall. VW said it has not heard of any reported injuries or fires associated with the recall.
As a North Charleston car accident attorney, , I’m glad that VW was able to find the problem and issue a recall before any reports of injury occurred. I urge VW owners to pay attention to this potentially dangerous problem and get it fixed as soon as possible.
VW will begin the recall campaign on or before Jan. 31, according to news reports . For more info, owners can call Volkswagen at 800-822-8987 or NHTSA’s hot line at 888-327-4236.
