According to news reports, South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) troopers took 20 alleged drunk drivers into custody over the Labor Day weekend in the tri-county area.
Lance Cpl. Billy Elder of the SCHP stated that ten of those twenty drivers were charged with DUI in York County alone. That’s just a small percentage of the 250 drivers in York County arrested for DUI during the “100 Deadly Days of Summer,” the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
Five individuals were charged with DUI in Chester County and five more in Lancaster County over the holiday weekend. In the tri-county area, no one was killed in accidents over the weekend out of the 53 accidents that happened.
During the “Deadly Days”, troopers in York County took 189 people into custody for DUI and other York County agencies reported arresting 79 people over the summer or the same charge. Troopers investigated 783 accidents in York County during the “Deadly Days” and 51 of those crashes involved charges for driving under the influence.
As a Greenville car accident lawyer , I’m aware of the staggering data on DUI accidents over the summer and hope that they motivate drivers to practice safe driving habits year round. If you were injured in an accident that was the result of another driver’s negligence, it may be in your best interests to call a car accident lawyer in your city.
