Toyota is recalling 1.53 million vehicles worldwide due to a problem with brake fluid and fuel pump problems, the company announced Thursday. The recall is the latest in a string of recalls during the past couple years that have questioned the quality of the world’s No. 1 automaker.
The recalled models in the United States are:
- 2005 and 2006 Avalon
- 2004, 2005, 2006 non-hybrid Highlander
- 2004, 2005, 2006 Lexus RX3300
- 2006 Lexus GS300, IS250, and IS350
The recalled vehicles need a new break master cylinder, because a small amount of brake fluid could leak from the brake master cylinder, resulting in illumination of the brake warning lamp and lead to weak breaking power.
As a car accident attorney , I’m glad that this time around Toyota caught the problem before any accidents or injuries were reported. I suggest owners of the recalled cars talk to Toyota or their dealer immediately to fix the problem.
Toyota has recalled more than 10 million vehicles worldwide in the past year for faulty gas pedals and floor mats that can trap accelerators, braking problems in its Prius hybrid and stalling engines.
Owners of recalled vehicles will be notified by mail of the recall in early November, according to CBS News . Toyota and Lexus dealers will replace the brake master cylinder cup for free.
