A 2-year-old child and her grandparents were seriously injured in a hit-and-run car accident Sunday night in High Point, N.C., according to news reports.
The accident occurred around 5:44 p.m. Sunday when a 40-year-old driver of a 1993 Toyota Corolla was speeding and crashed into the back of a 1994 Mercury Tracer also traveling east on Fairfield Road, according to police reports.
The couple inside the vehicle that was rear-ended was taken to the High Point Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Their 2-year-old granddaughter, who was in the backseat of their Mercury Tracer was transported to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem in critical condition.
Police soon found the hit-and-run driver and he was charged with “driving while impaired, driving while his license was revoked, failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a stolen license plate, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, felony serious injury by motor vehicle and three felony counts of hit-and-run,” according to news reports. Kennedy also had three outstanding warrants for probation violation.
The man is now in Guilford County jail under an $85,100 bond.
