South Carolina drivers who tend to drive faster than the speed limit may want to pay more attention to their speedometer. According to news reports, some of South Carolina’s highways will be under the scrutiny of extra patrol looking for speeders.
The extra patrols will be focused on some of the state’s most dangerous highways, according to news reports. The $1.5 million funding comes from the state Department of Transportation, which will allow for troopers to work overtime on roads with a high number of deaths in collisions caused by driving too fast.
The news report didn’t name the specific streets affected, but said most are heavily traveled roads, not interstates.
The DOT program will likely fund a similar crackdown in Greenville and Horry counties in November, according to news reports.
As a North Charleston personal injury lawyer , I’m glad to see the focus on speeding. Speeding can be just as dangerous as drinking and driving or distracted driving. I urge drivers to always follow the speed limit, which is put in place to keep drivers safe. Drivers should never speed, whether there are extra patrols out or not.
