If you’ve noticed the speeding cameras along I-95 in Richland they may seem like a burden, but according to AAA Carolinas, they’re working to catch speeders.
AAA Carolinas say the cameras that catch speeders along the interstate should stay in place, despite lawmakers wanting to outlaw them, according to news reports . According to AAA, the cameras, which have been in place for six months, have helped in eliminating traffic deaths and accidents requiring hospitalizations on the 7-mile stretch of the interstate that travels through the Jasper County town.
Prior to installing the cameras, there were four deaths and nine serious injuries in seven months.
Opponents of the cameras, however, say they violate state law. They are also a target of a federal lawsuit.
As a North Charleston personal injury lawyer , I’m glad to hear that the speeding cameras are making roadways safer. Speeding can be just as dangerous as drinking and driving or distracted driving. I urge drivers to always follow the speed limit, which is put in place to keep drivers safe. Drivers should never speed, whether there are extra patrols or speeding cameras around or not.
