South Carolina officers were honored Wednesday for their efforts to remove drunken drivers from the road, according to news reports .
The South Carolina Department of Public Safety presented the awards to law enforcement officers at its 6th Annual DUI Enforcement Recognition Ceremony, according to news reports.
“Highway Patrol, State Transport Police and our local law enforcement partner agencies do a fantastic job enforcing the traffic laws of our state,” SCDPS Director Mark Keel said to news reports. “But when we all work together and combine our efforts, the good that we do is multiplied. It means more drunk drivers are off our roads and behind bars. It means more people are educated about the effects of DUI. Most importantly, it means more lives are saved. That should be applauded.”
One officer was issued the Gold award for his arresting 50 or more people for driving under the influence, according to news reports.
As a Columbia car accident attorney , I’m glad the officers are paying attention to the importance of removing drunken drivers from South Carolina roadways. It’s disheartening, however, to hear about how many DUI arrests occure every year in South Carolina. I urge drivers to never drink and drive.
