Nine inches of snow and ice fell in parts of South Carolina as the winter storm blanked the state, causing numerous accidents and at least one traffic death.
The South Carolina Department of Transportation is urging drivers to stay home and off the roadways for at least another day, as road conditions continue to be poor.
“The National Weather Service continued winter weather advisories in northwestern South Carolina through noon Wednesday because of problems with black ice on the roads. Similar advisories were in effect for the rest of the state until about midday Tuesday because of a possibility of freezing drizzle and the hazardous travel conditions,” according to news reports.
Since Sunday night, the Highway Patrol had handled more than 2,600 car accidents, according to news reports. State Law Enforcement Division agents and Department of Natural Resources officers assisted in their efforts.
As a North Charleston car accident attorney, , I urge drivers to practice safe driving techniques in the snow, such as slowing down, not tailgating other drivers and using studded or chained tires while driving.
