Three pedestrians in four separate accidents during the past 10 days have died, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The high number of tragic pedestrian deaths is bringing the South Carolina Highway Patrol to remind drivers and pedestrians of safety steps to take.
According to troopers, most pedestrian accidents occurred in the morning and afternoon of peak travel time. The majority of pedestrian deaths occur at night, according to news reports .
“Highway Patrol says when it comes to pedestrian accidents in South Carolina, the pedestrians are at fault 63% of the time. The primary mistake – walking in the road illegally and improper crossing of roadways.
“South Carolina law states that pedestrians must walk on the shoulder of the highway. Collins suggests that you wear light reflective material if you are walking at night. Never walk along the road if you’ve been drinking. Always walk on the left shoulder facing traffic closest to you.”
As a Florence personal injury lawyer , I’m saddened to hear about the number of tragic pedestrian deaths occurring in the state. I urge drivers and pedestrians to follow road safety rules to avoid these accidents.
