“Consumers should be aware that the cilantro bunches do not contain identifying lot codes. Each bunch is sold with a distinctive, but general, twist-tie for cilantro,” according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration .
So far, no reports of food borne illness have been reported in connection to this recall.
As a North Charleston foodborne illness attorney , I urge consumers to throw away or return the cilantro to the store of purchase for a full refund. A Salmonella food poisoning infection is potentially life-threatening and symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps 7-8 hours after infection. Symptoms may be more severe in young and elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems. It is one of the most common intestinal infections in the United States. There are approximately 30,000 cases of Salmonellosis per year in the U.S. Many cases, though, go undiagnosed so it is hard to tell the true number of cases. Around 600 people die annually from acute Salmonellosis.
If you fear you may have been contaminated with a foodborne illness you should visit your physician. If you have been injured from contaminated food you should have your case evaluated by a personal injury attorney in Charleston .
