Saab was named a Top Safety Pick vehicle among the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s list, according to news reports .
For many, Saab is still teetering on the brink despite a recent shot in the arm from Pang Da and Youngman, but its cars are certainly doing well in safety tests, if not in sales. The 2011 9-4X today joined the 9-5 among the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s Top Safety Picks.
The requirements to earn a Top Safety Pick rating include top marks in all crash tests (side, frontal, and rear-end, plus roof-crush and mandatory inclusion of stability control. The 9-4X cleared all hurdles.
Spanning the range from $34,205 for the entry-level front-wheel drive model to the range-topping Aero XWD all-wheel drive’s $48,835, the 9-4X also bridges the aspirational and luxury segments.
