In an effort to prevent any more vehicle crashes, Orangeburg lawmakers intend to urge the state to make safety upgrades to the I-95 bridge, report news sources .
The Orangeburg County Council unanimously approved, during their regular meeting Monday, a measure to have the county administrator send a letter to the South Carolina Department of Transportation calling for proposals on how to improve safety on the bridge. A copy of the letter will be forwarded to the local legislative delegation.
Suggestions from one councilman include widening the bridge to include shoulders that a disabled vehicle to pull on to and an early warning system that would signal oncoming motorists of a crash on the bridge.
Currently, the northbound side of the I-95 bridge is undergoing construction work that will rebuild its deteriorating concrete deck.
As an Orangeburg auto accident attorney , motorist safety is something that I am very conscious of; I encourage drivers to drive defensively and to pay attention to their surroundings. Because of my experience as a Orangeburg personal injury lawyer , I am very aware of the split-second difference between everything seeming fine and a terrible vehicle crash. I urge motorists to always practice safe driving habits.
