An 18-year-old female collided her car when it was about to go up in flames. After cars approached then drove away, one neighbor came out to rescue the driver. State Patrol gave him the Highway Patrol Hero award for saving her life. The award is given to those who go above and beyond, often putting their own life in danger to save another’s. The hero recently corresponded with the victim, checking on her recovery progress. “She told me she’s recovered and she’s doing good,” he said. Police said they do not encourage others to risk their lives to save others, but that decision is a personal one. According to news reports , other heroes were awarded by police, one in particular rescued an officer in March.
