Mercedes-Benz is recalling nearly 2,300 vehicles due to a leaky fuel filter that may lead to a car accident.
Mercedes-Benz, one of the oldest, well-known and established automakers in the world issued the recall Friday on its 2011 E-Class, GL-Class, M-Class and R-Class models.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the vehicles’ O-ring may not have been properly lubricated, which can cause fuel to spill out onto roads, causing unsafe conditions for other drivers. “Diesel fuel may be deposited on roads and making [sic] those roads slippery, increasing the potential for a crash,” according to news reports.
The recall applies to both gas- and diesel-powered vehicles, but because the issue affects the newer model vehicles, the recall is relatively small.
Mercedes-Benz dealers will replace the fuel filters free of charge, and owners are urged to call their local dealer, or contact Mercedes-Benz at 800-367-6372 to get the fix.
As a North Charleston car accident attorney, , I’m glad to hear Mercedes-Benz caught the issue early before any injuries were reported. Hopefully, the manufacture can fix this problems so issues don’t occur in the future.
