Mercedes-Benz luxury vehicles are being recalled because of a defect with the cruise control, according to news reports .
Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz said it is recalling 136,750 M-Class and M-Class AMG vehicles nationwide. “The recall covers model year 2000-2002 M-Class and 2000-2004 M-Class AMG vehicles,” according to news reports.
Mercedes said it is recalling the M-Class vehicles because the cruise control could become stuck, increasing the risk for car accidents. When drivers apply the brakes to disengage the cruise control, it may not turn off the cruise, increasing the likelihood of car accidents, according to news reports. While there are ways to disengage the cruise control, including “cruise control stalk” or pumping the brakes, Mercedes is still recalling the vehicles to get the issue fixed.
As a North Charleston personal injury lawyer , I’m glad to hear that no reported car accidents or injuries have occurred as a result of a car accident thus far. However, multiple car owners have noticed this defect with the cruise control. I urge owners of these recalled vehicle to get the problem fixed as soon as possible. Mercedes said repairs will be made at dealerships beginning in September, according to a filing with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
