In a news release Wednesday, Deere & Company, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, announced the voluntary recall of more than 5,000 John Deere lawn tractors due to a risk of brake failure.
Subject to recall are approximately 5,200 model D100 lawn tractors. The hardware used to held the break assembly to the transmission of the recalled lawn tractors can break, causing the brakes to fail and posing an injury hazard if the tractor’s driver lost control of the vehicle. There have been no reported injuries in connection with the brake issue.
The serial number for the lawn tractors affected by the recall can be found under the right rear fender. The model number is displayed on either side of the tractor’s hood. The recalled tractors are green, have yellow seats and mower decks, and were sold nationwide (except in California) at John Deere dealers, Lowe’s and Home Depot stores from October 2010 through September 2011.
Serial numbers for the recalled lawn tractors:
• 1GXD100A…BB051247 thru 1GXD100A…BB053312
• 1GXD100E…BB114388 thru 1GXD100E…BB139599
Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled lawn tractors immediate and to contact Deere & Company to arrange for free inspection and repair of the tractor.
As a Florence personal injury lawyer , consumer safety is something that I am very aware of; I hope that no one was hurt because of the defective lawn tractor. Because of my experience as a Florence personal injury attorney , I know that the effects of a faulty product can range from inconvenience and frustration to injury and sometimes death. I encourage anyone in possession of one of the recalled tractors to arrange to have it inspected and repaired as soon as possible.
