If you’re a frequent blog reader, or visiting our site for the first time, you can easily see the high volume of nursery product recalls, and those faulty products are causing an increase of infant deaths this year.
Car seats, cribs and strollers designed to protect infants are causing more and more deaths, according to news reports . In 2009, there were more than 77,000 injuries among infants younger than five, warranting emergency room care, an increase of more than 22 percent from the year before. From 2005 to 2007, there were 265 deaths, with 90% involving those same nursery products.
Infant carriers, car seat carriers, cribs and mattresses, strollers, carriages and high chairs are associated with nearly three quarters of the injuries, with falls being the leading cause of injury.
As a North Charleston personal injury lawyer, I’ve reported on the recent Evenflo crib and Graco stroller recalls, which both caused suffocation risks to infants, along with many other recalls in the past. It’s sad to see so many recalls of devices that are supposed to keep babies safe.
