American automaker Ford Motor Co. is rising to the No. 1 spot in consumer satisfaction, catching up to Toyota in a recent survey.
Ford and Toyota are nearly tied in the most recent Consumer Reports Car Brand Perception Survey. Toyota’s overall score was 147 and Ford’s was 144, according to news reports .
The increased popularity for Toyota is being attributed to changes the company made in 2009 regarding its perception of environmental friendliness, quality and style.
Meanwhile, Toyota has been facing problems with its image regarding vehicle recalls and safety scares. Toyota recalled about 14 million vehicles worldwide since last November, including about 11 million in the United States. It was the only major automaker to suffer a decline in sales from 2010 to 2009.
Consumers ranked the automakers under seven categories, including safety, quality, value, performance, style, technology and environmentalism on a scale of 0 to 100. The scores were then added up for a total score.
As a North Charleston car accident attorney, , I’m happy to see American automakers making progress toward creating safer, more environmentally-friendly vehicles that American consumers can stand behind. I hope the rankings continue to improve and manufacturers can make their cars even safer in the future. Toyota will need to make more safety improvements to make up for their various recalls from vehicle defects that caused car accidents.
