Some cell phone apps will soon be monitored by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, according to news reports .
According to the FDA, it has taken the first steps toward regulating the rapidly expanding field of medical applications, or apps, for smart phones and other handheld devices. It says it wants to make sure all phone apps that deal with health and medical information is accurate.
“With the rise of the iPhone, Android and other mobile devices has come a flood of applications designed to help people stay healthy. Industry analysts estimate there are already more than 17,000 medical applications available, ranging from calorie counters to programs that let doctors view medical scans on their phones,” according to news reports.
While the FDA can’t immediately regulate all apps, it will work on a handful of programs that pose a greater risk if they don’t work, such as heart monitors that transmit to a smartphone.
As a Beaufort personal injury lawyer , I hope that nobody is adversely affected by these phone products. I urge customers who use these apps to talk to a doctor about the possible health risks. While the Food and Drug Administration hasn’t urged a recall on this product, it still may be dangerous to your health.
While we don’t handle this kind of product we feel that it’s important to educate the community to help protect their health and safety. If you have been injured by a recalled product, you might wish to contact an Beaufort personal injury lawyer who can help.
