Hamilton Beach is recalling thousands of toasters because they could malfunction and energize indefinitely, causing burn and fire risks, according to Consumer Reports.
Nearly 300,00 Hamilton Beach toasters are affected by the recall. The recall involves model 22600 toasters with specific series codes (see the recall notice from the Consumer Product Safety Commission for full details). The chrome toaster has both rotary and button controls arrayed below the handle.
There have been 15 reports of toasters that failed to pop.
Luckily, there have been no reports of personal injuries, these have been three reports of damage to kitchen cabinets.
The toasters were made in China and sold from February 2008 through June 2011 for between $30 and $40.
As a Greenville personal injury lawyer , I urge consumers to stop using the recalled product. I hope this recall can be addressed before any serious personal injuries occur. Hamilton Beach is asking consumers to unplug and stop using the toasters and to contact the company to receive instructions on how to obtain a free replacement toaster at (800) 379-2200 or via the firm’s website www.hamiltonbeach.com.
