Culinary delights, live entertainment, and some of the best auction items in Charleston, SC will be featured at the fifth annual A Global Affair Gala and Silent Auction , which will be held this Thursday, Oct. 24. The cocktail fundraiser will take place at Alhambra Hall (131 Middle Street, Mt. Pleasant) from 7 – 10 p.m., and will support local university students’ efforts to fund a clean water initiative of Project Okurase , which focuses on helping a village in Ghana, West Africa.
“This will be a fun-filled evening to benefit a wonderful cause, and I’m honored to be involved with such a great event in our community,” said George Sink, event sponsor and founding attorney of George Sink, P.A. Injury Lawyers . “Helping people is what I do, and this is a great way to do it,” he added. The firm is excited to be part of this year’s event, presented by Possibilities Without Borders , a local non-profit organization.
Among the unique prizes that will be part of the event’s silent auction include tickets to the Primetime Emmy® Awards, NCAA Final Four Championship, U.S. Open Golf Tournament, and a trip to Paris. A full list of auction items can be found on the event’s website .
Project Okurase strives to focus on the HIV/AIDS crisis in Okurase, a rural village in Ghana, West Africa, by providing assistance to orphaned and vulnerable children who are affected by HIV/AIDS in their families and villages. Water Missions International has been working with Project Okurase to identify ways of implementing a safe water source for the Okurase community. Next summer, a group of students from College of Charleston , The Citadel , and MUSC will travel to Ghana to continue this work, and also work together with community leaders on the resources needed for clean water and sanitation, and also on ways to maximize the technology.
