George Sink, P.A. Injury Lawyers aims to give its Veterans and Military Family Scholarship to students who’ve overcome significant challenges in their lives. For Dylan, those challenges came long before he joined the military. According to his essay, Dylan and his mother lived without a home until Dylan turned eleven.
Dylan grew up without his father and eventually moved in with his mother’s parents. He speaks highly of the effort that they put into making a life for themselves in the United States, mentioning both his grandfather’s military service and his grandmother’s flight from Korea to Kansas.
Dylan’s mother faced more than her fair share of strife, too. Dylan speaks candidly about her struggles in the job market and the dangers imposed on them by one of his mother’s ex-boyfriends. Even so, in his own words, Dylan says, “I feel lucky for every day I survived and every meal I ate.”
Pursuing Academic Growth
Once Dylan and his mother found a home with his grandparents, his life slowly began to change. Dylan notes that his early teachers offered him little to no academic encouragement. Once he hit eighth grade, however, he pursued opportunities to grow through the Liberal Arts and Science Academy.
While he at one point faced disqualification from the program, Dylan also says that attending the program changed his outlook on academia. In his sophomore year with the Liberal Arts and Science Academy, he buckled down and pursued dreams of a college education with new vigor.
While fighting to raise his GPA, Dylan determined that he wanted to eventually attend college in Texas. In the fall semester of his junior year, this dream found fertile ground alongside the opportunities presented to him by the United States Air Force.

Dylan reports coming to the United States Air Force through 2nd Lt. Benjamin Taulli. In the fall of Dylan’s junior year of high school, he met the 2nd Lt. while Taulli was still a cadet with Detachment 825. Dylan reports connecting with Taulli during a school presentation. Taulli then invited Dylan to shadow the AFROTC detachment, allowing Dylan to meet the cadre.
Dylan notes that his time with the cadre made him better understand the community and opportunities that came with joining up. While applying for colleges in his senior year, he also sent an application to the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps High School Program.
His college applications to his top schools may have been deferred, but the Air Force Reserve was happy to have him aboard. Captain Hall from 2nd Lt. Benjamin Taulli’s detachment even contacted Dylan to tell him that he’d received a scholarship that would cover 100 percent of his tuition at his school of choice.
