Students are out of school, holiday parties are in full swing and drivers are driving under the influence more than ever this holiday season.
According to research, holiday weekends are worse than late nights and weekends, which suggest up to 10 percent of drivers, are driving under the influence. Nearly 3 out of 10 Americans will be involved in an alcohol related crash at some time in their lives and at any given time, 2 percent of drivers on the road are driving under the influence.
Troopers blame the increase of drunk drivers on holiday functions, family get-togethers, parties and other celebratory events that could include alcohol.
As a North Charleston car accident attorney, , I urge everyone planning on drinking for New Year’s to have a designated driver or to plan another way of getting home, like taking a cab. New Year’s is likely to be very dangerous because the holiday is centered on staying out late and drinking. I challenge people not to be a statistic by practicing safe driving techniques and being responsible enough to always use a designated driver. Even if you are driving sober this holiday weekend, be aware of other dangerous drivers on the road.
