Warning: Spring Street to Cannon Street is now a one-way.
Charleston County Government is warning drivers of a recent street change that has permanently converted Courtenay Drive to a two-lane, one-way street from Spring Street to Cannon Street.
The county is reminding drivers “No left turns are permitted onto Courtenay Drive from Cannon Street and no northbound through traffic is permitted on Courtenay Drive crossing Cannon Street to access Spring Street (the Crosstown),” according to news reports.
Although drivers have already been notified of the change, some motorists are still trying to take a left turn onto Courtenay from Cannon or continuing to drive straight across Cannon on Courtenay.
As a North Charleston personal injury lawyer I urge drivers to pay attention to the change and be weary about drivers who may not know about the street change. Problems may especially arise during the holiday traffic when people who aren’t familiar with areas may be entering the neighborhood. Drivers who turn down the street thinking it is a two-way road may cause a serious car accident. I urge drivers in the area to talk about the change with family and friends so they are not involved in a car accident on the road.
