Eighty lawsuits were filed on behalf of Wisconsin residents and families who have been affected by faulty recalled DePuy ASR XL Acetabular Hip Replacement Systems, according to news reports .
Attorneys filed the lawsuits against defendants Johnson and Johnson Inc., DePuy Orthopaedics Inc., and their subsidiaries, seeking unspecified compensation, according to news reports.
“This DePuy Hip Replacement System has been used in tens of thousands of patients across the country and approximately 93,000 patients worldwide,” one of the attorneys said to news reports. “The failure of this recalled hip replacement system has created the potential for a lifetime of negative consequences for patients and their families, instead of creating the lifetime of mobility and activity that they had bargained for.”
As a hip recall attorney, I urge every patient who received an ASR hip implant, whether it has physically failed or not, to seek legal advice to ensure their civil rights and liberties are protected. Large corporations like DePuy, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, oftentimes urge consumers not to seek legal advice because they want to control the situation but it’s often in the patient’s best interest to seek outside help.
As more and more patients need difficult revision surgery as a result of their failed ASR hip implant, civil litigation is necessary to ensure they receive the compensation they deserve for the irreparable damage done to their lives and health by defective products and the corporations that produce them.
