A dangerous stretch of Interstate 26 is scheduled to be repaired, according to news reports.
The 16-mile stretch between Jedburg and Interstate 95 on Interstate 26, northwest of Charleston remains one of the deadliest highways in South Carolina, according to news reports.
Nine fatal accidents have occurred during the past year.
Crews will now install rumble strips along the edge of the left lane along 10 miles of the interstate to alert drivers they are veering off the pavement.
A 16-mile stretch will be repaved with a 4-foot-wide shoulder in the median and rumble strips. The existing shoulder in places is just 1 foot wide, allowing motorists little reaction time if they get into trouble.
Highway crews will begin work on both projects this year, according to news reports.
As a car accident attorney Charleston , I’m glad to hear that crews will be working to make this highway safer. I hope these changes can prevent personal injuries and car accidents in the future.
