Driving through West Columbia? Avoid Highway 378! In the freezing temperatures of the early morning, a water line break on Sunset Boulevard near Jarvis Klapman Boulevard caused ice to spread over a sizable portion of the westbound side of the highway. The West Columbia Police Department responded by shutting down westbound traffic a Jarvis Klapman Boulevard. Only one lane of traffic remains open in both directions. Police are asking drivers to avoid the area while repairs are in progress, and warn drivers to expect heavy traffic in these areas.
According to the City of West Columbia, crews are now working to determine the exact location of the leak and are in the process of determining which water customers are affected. Customers are advised that some people may temporarily lose water service. A local poultry processing facility has received a boil advisory, but so far, no other customers are under an advisory.
