Media sources reported that law enforcement officers in Anderson County have pledged to curb traffic fatalities in the area after an unusually high number of traffic deaths this year.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP), there have been 28 fatalities on Anderson County roadways since January 1, which is concerning when compared to the 24 deaths at the same time last year. Officials say that about 30 percent of the fatalities this year are attributed to drinking and driving.
In a press statement, state troopers and the deputies of Anderson County said they would begin targeting reckless, drunken and inattentive drivers through saturation patrols, increased checkpoints and by adding troopers from surrounding counties. They hope their increased presence will force drivers to be more attentive and make individuals think twice before drinking and driving.
As a Spartanburg car accident lawyer , I know that our state has a high rate of accident fatalities and hope that the increased trooper presence will aid in making our roads safer for everyone. In my time as a car accident lawyer , I’ve seen the devastating effects that DUI accidents can have not only on the victims but on the their family members. I implore everyone to practice safe-driving habits on the road at all time.
