Robert Emmet Treacy, Jr. is the son of an English professor and a commercial fisherman. He was raised in Hampton, Columbia and then Charleston. After graduating from Bishop England High School, Robert worked his way through the College of Charleston (B.A. 1993) and the University of South Carolina School of Law (J.D. 1996). After a one-year judicial clerkship with a Circuit Court judge in Anderson, Robert was commended for his outstanding service from 1997-1999 as a prosecutor with the Oconee County Solicitor’s Office and then worked in private practice in the Upstate focusing in both criminal and civil trial work. In 2002, Robert returned to Charleston with his wife and joined our North Charleston office.
Entering his 30th year of practice, Robert has successfully settled thousands of cases, including many complex cases involving catastrophic injuries and wrongful death, including several million dollar and multi-million dollar recoveries for innocent victims and their families. Robert has tried cases in all levels of South Carolina trial courts, the Workers’ Compensation Commission, the Social Security Administration and the U.S. District Court. Robert has briefed cases to the S.C. Court of Appeals and argued before the S.C. Supreme Court.
Robert currently covers the entire state as the director of our litigation team. Having lived in every region of the state, Robert feels at home anywhere in South Carolina.
100% of Robert’s practice is dedicated to fighting to recover fair compensation for innocent victims of negligence and recklessness. Robert is proud to have never worked for the insurance companies defending carelessness and recklessness. He believes that holding careless people accountable for the harm they cause makes our communities safer. Insurance companies hire lawyers to make excuses for careless people. Even if the defendant accepts responsibility, the insurance company can force a case to trial just because they do not want to fairly value the harms caused to the victim. Sometimes victims must ask a jury to issue a verdict that speaks the truth of how severe those harms are and who is responsible for causing them.
Robert enjoys getting to know his clients, advising them through the process of obtaining justice, advocating for them in settlement negotiations and in court to juries. Insurance companies make money by taking in premiums and paying as little as possible for claims. Our civil juries serve a very valuable role in making sure that careless people are not allowed to run all over victims without the insurance companies making victims whole.
Robert and his wife, Malinda, live in Charleston with their Yorkies, Jake Brigance and Rudy Baylor. They enjoy travel, good food, reading and spending quality time with friends and family.
