Drivers in Greenville, South Carolina should be extra careful when they start their cars every morning. The county has the dubious distinction of having the most fatal car accidents in South Carolina for the year 2008, according to statistics released by the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The NHTSA also studied the percentage of difference between the current fatality statistics for 2008 and the statistics in 1994. 25 of the 47 counties had increases in fatal auto accidents when comparing the two years while 22 counties managed to lower their rates. Overall the number of fatal auto accidents has decreased since 1994 when 1065 individuals were killed in auto accidents compared to 920 individuals in 2008, a drop of 9%.
