Bridgeway Bicycles Recalled Due to Risk of Chain Break

By admin on September 22, 2011

In a news release Thursday, Bridgeway International, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, announced a voluntary recall of more than 90,000 bicycles due to a safety issue.

Subject to recall are approximately 91,000 bicycles. The chain on the recalled bikes can break, which could cause the rider to lose control of the bicycle and fall. Bridgeway is aware of 11 reports of chains breaking, nine of which included complaints of injuries including lacerations and contusions.

The recall affects model numbers LBH2611M and LBH2611M2 of NEXT-brand men’s 26-inch hybrid bicycles. The bicycles were sold at Walmart for about $100 from February 2011 through July 2011.

Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled bicycles immediately and arrange for a free repair by contacting Bridgeway.

As a Florence personal injury attorney, consumer safety is something that I am very aware of; I hope that no one else was injured because of the bicycle chain issue. Because of my experience as a Florence auto accident lawyer, I know that the effects of a faulty product can range from inconvenience and frustration to injury and sometimes death. I encourage anyone who has purchased the recalled bicycles to arrange for a repair as soon as possible.
