Richland County Coroner: Two Dead from Separate Crashes

Two people died Saturday due to injuries suffered in separate Richland County crashes, report media sources.

The most recent crash occurred Saturday morning at 2:40 a.m. in Columbia. According to the Richland County Coroner’s Office, a 28-year-old man was riding in the rear seat of a vehicle traveling on Heyward Brockington Road when the vehicle crashed into a tree. The man, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, died of his injuries at 6:48 a.m.

The other incident occurred at about 10:30 p.m. on October 13. According to the Coroner’s Office a 47-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle on Shop Road. She was taken to a Columbia hospital; she died of her wounds early Saturday morning.

Jasper County Collision Kills Three; Driver Faces Felony DUI

Three men were killed Wednesday in a two-vehicle collision in Japer County about 15 miles north of Ridgeland, report news sources.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash occurred near the intersection of U.S. 321 and U.S. 601 when the vehicle that the three men were in was struck by a Ford pickup truck driven by a 62-year-old Pineland man.

A 41-year-old Beaufort man who was not wearing a seatbelt was killed instantly in collision. The other two occupants of the ill-fated vehicle were the driver, 27, and another passenger, 30, both Garnett residents. They were declared dead at the scene of the crash.

The driver of the pickup suffered minor injuries in the crash and was charged with felony driving under the influence.

Myrtle Beach Woman Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash in Conway

A multi-vehicle collision killed a woman Thursday morning in Conway, report news sources.

According to the Horry County Coroner’s Office, the 51-year-old Myrtle Beach woman died of head injuries suffer in the 10:30 a.m. collision that occurred on Singleton Ridge Road and involved three vehicles. She was a passenger in one of the cars involved in the crash. The woman was pronounced dead at a local medical center.

Three other people involved in the collision were transported to the same medical center for treatment of minor injuries. Reports did not indicate the cause of the crash.

The collision remains under investigation by the Conway Police Department and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

One Dead in Single-Vehicle Crash in Greenville County

A single-vehicle crash Tuesday night in southern Greenville County has left one person dead, report media sources.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the 8:55 p.m. crash occurred on Dunklin Bridge Road at Latimer Mill Road when a Buick sport utility vehicle veered off the right side of the road, struck a tree and caught fire. Reports did not indicate what caused the vehicle to go off the road.

Emergency personnel responded to the crash site, and an investigator from the Greenville County Corner’s Office was also called to the scene of the fatal crash; however, the identity of the person who died has not yet been released.

Columbia 6th Grader Dies After Being Struck by Vehicle

A Columbia middle school student died Wednesday morning of injuries suffered when he was struck by a vehicle Tuesday afternoon, report media sources.

According to the Richland County Coroner’s Office the 11-year-old boy died at a local hospital of multiple trauma suffered in the traffic incident.

On Tuesday at around 2:40 p.m., the sixth grader was crossing the street when he was struck by a vehicle traveling northbound on Decker Boulevard, says the South Carolina Highway Patrol. The 35-year-old woman driving the vehicle was unharmed in the incident.

Soon after the incident a Richland School District Two spokesperson said that the district was encouraging people to keep the boy and his family in their thoughts and prayers.

No charges have been filed, and the incident remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.

Man in Parked Car Dies in Fort Mill Crash

A man died Monday night because of a vehicle collision while sitting in a car parked in a Fort Mill driveway, report news sources.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, at approximately 6:30 p.m. the 42-year-old Rock Hill man was in a vehicle parked in the driveway of a Fort Mill business when the drivers of two vehicles traveling northbound on Harrisonburg Road lost control of their vehicles, one of which, driven by a Charlotte man, crashed into the parked car. The driver of the other errant vehicle was apparently able to regain control of the car and left the scene.

The man in the parked car was rushed to a Charlotte, medical center where he was declared dead. The driver of the vehicle that stuck the parked car was taken to a Rock Hill medical center for treatment of unspecified injuries suffered in the collision.

The incident remains under investigation.

Woman Dies, Two Hurt in Orangeburg County Ambulance Crash

A woman being transported in an ambulance died after the Orangeburg County emergency vehicle overturned Monday night, report news sources.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the 2009 Chevrolet ambulance was traveling southbound on U.S. 301 when the emergency vehicle first veered off the right side of the road then traveled back across the roadway and exited the left side of the roadway and overturned near Homestead Road.

The 79-year-old Vance woman being transported in the ambulance died. The driver of the emergency vehicle, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident, and another passenger were taken to an area medical center with unspecified, non-life-threatening injuries.

Woman Dies After Vehicle Crashes into Darlington Museum

A woman died Thursday after the vehicle in which she was a passenger crashed into the Darlington Raceway Stock Car Museum in Darlington, report news sources.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the 3:20 p.m. crash occurred when a 2000 Chevrolet four-door vehicle attempted to cross S.C. 34/151 but instead collided with the museum building.

The woman, whom the Darlington County Coroner’s Office has identified as an 81-year-old Darlington woman, was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of unspecified injures. A Highway Patrol spokesperson said that the octogenarian had been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

No one at the museum suffered any injuries, but the crash did leave a hole in the wall. The incident remains under investigation by they Highway Patrol.

NC Man Facing Charges in Fatal Chester County Hit-and-Run

A North Carolina man is facing charges in a hit-and-run collision Thursday afternoon in Chester County that killed a man and injured a woman, report news sources.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the 3:47 p.m. crash occurred when a Ford Explorer sport utility vehicle driven by a Gastonia, NC, man struck another vehicle on Interstate 77 near Mountain Gap Road. The impact of the collision forced the other vehicle of the road where it struck a tree.

The driver of the struck vehicle died of blunt force trauma to the head and chest, according to the Chester County Coroner’s Office. The passenger in the vehicle, a 22-year-old woman, was taken to a Columbia hospital.

After the collision, the SUV spun into the median and left the scene. Troopers later stopped the SUV and arrested the driver. He is charged with driving under the influence and leaving the scene of a fatal accident.

One person died and another was injured Thursday afternoon in a hit-and-run collision in Columbia, report news sources.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, at 3:45 p.m. authorities received a report of a crash on Interstate 77 near mile-marker 51. Troopers report that a southbound green Ford Explorer sport utility vehicle collided with a beige Honda. The impact caused the Honda to go off the road and crash into a tree.

One person in the Honda died, and other occupant of the vehicle was injured.

The SUV appeared to go out of control for a moment, but then continued traveling southbound on the freeway. Authorities say the at large vehicle has a North Carolina license plate and may be the same vehicle that was the subject of a reckless driving report that was made shortly before the collision.
