Juice Truck Crashes on I-26

An accident involving a tractor trailer full of fruit juice backed up traffic for nearly two hours in Lexington County on Friday, according to news reports.

The accident occurred in the median of Interstate 26, between the Broad River Road and Lake Murray Blvd. exits.

South Carolina Highway Patrol investigators said the accident occurred when one of the driver’s side front tire blew, according to news reports. The collision totaled the front of the truck head and twisted the trailer behind it.

No reports of injuries occurred in the incident. No other vehicles were involved, as the truck landed in a grassy area between the roadways.

The collision blocked the westbound from exits 97 to 101 of Interstate 26. Traffic was blocked for almost two hours and the South Carolina Highway Patrol urged drivers to avoid the scene to prevent worsened backups.

Tractor Driver Killed in Collision with Log Truck

One person was killed following a collision involving a tractor and a log truck Thursday in Colleton County, according to news reports.

The fatal accident occurred Thursday afternoon when a 40-year-old man from Columbia was driving a 1969 John Deere farm tractor on Lodge Highway in Colleton County. As he was driving he tried to make a left turn onto Sunflower Lane. A driver of a semi-truck hauling logs then tried to pass on a double-yellow line crashed into the tractor.

The collision killed the 40-year-old tractor driver. The log truck overturned and logs spilled onto the roadway, according to news reports.

South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers reported to the scene. It took nearly six hours to clear the site, according to news reports.

It is unclear if any charges have been filed for this collision. The SC Highway Patrol and the Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team is investigating the crash.

U.S. 701 Bridge Still Closed after Wreck

The bridge on U.S. 701 that was damaged in a fatal truck accident remains closed, according to news reports.

The bridge, which runs from Georgetown to Conway over the Pee Dee River, was damaged in a wreck around 8 a.m. Monday. The fatal truck accident occurred when the 38-year-old Georgetown truck driver lost control of his big rig, causing it to veer off the bridge, crash through a concrete railing and fall into a swampy area below, according to news reports.

The collision caused damage to the bridge’s railing. The Department of Transportation estimates construction repairs will be completed by noon Wednesday.

“About 70 feet of concrete railing on the bridge over the Pee Dee River has to be replaced,” according to news reports. “Drivers coming from Horry County will be directed to Pee Dee Highway to U.S. 378 to S.C. 41/S.C. 51 to S.C. 261 back to U.S. 701. Traffic coming from Georgetown County is being diverted along a similar route.”

Nearly 3,700 vehicles use the bridge every day, according to transportation officials.

21-Year-Old Killed in Tractor Collision in I-85

A 23-year-old man was killed in the crash around noon Thursday on Interstate 85 near mile marker 38 in Anderson County. The collision occurred when the man, who was driving a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck northbound on the interstate when it collided with an unoccupied tractor trailer. The trailer became disabled in another lane when the man crashed into it.

The young man, from Gardendale, Ala., died at the scene of the accident from massive blunt force trauma, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Patrol Car Clipped by Semi-Truck

An Anderson County sheriff’s deputy got into a car crash with a tractor-trailer Wednesday morning, according to news reports.

The accident occurred around 2:50 a.m. on S.C. 86 when the deputy was driving to a nonemergency call near Piedmont. As he was driving, a semi-truck moved from the left to the right lane, clipping the patrol car.

Luckily, neither the officer nor the truck driver was injured in the accident. The truck driver said he did not see the patrol car when he changed lanes. However, he is being blamed for the collision.

The patrol car suffered a small amount of damage to the right side of the bumper and minimal damage to the left quarter panel of the patrol car, according to news reports.

Deer, Semi Collision Injures South Carolina Man

A South Carolina man was injured in a car accident in Hopkins County, Ky., on Friday, according to news reports.

According to the Kentucky State Police, a 23-year-old South Carolina resident was driving his 2011 Ford Focus East on WK Parkway in Hopkins County when a deer ran out into the roadway. The man’s struck the deer, causing a semi-truck driving behind him to crash into his vehicle. His car then slammed into the guardrail, then back to the semi several times, before finally stopping in the emergency lane.

Luckily, the man only sustained mild injuries from the crash. He was taken to Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.

The semi-truck driver was not injured. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelt.

An overturned tractor-trailer caused backups for rush hour commuters Friday morning along Interstate 526 near Interstate 26 westbound, according to news reports.

The semi-truck overturned while exiting I-526 onto I-26 westbound, according to news reports. The accident resulted in the Highway Patrol to close the exit ramp on I-526 to enter onto I-26 for several hours.

Pedestrian Killed by Tractor Trailer in Columbia

A pedestrian died early Monday morning after being struck by a tractor trailer in Columbia, according to news reports.

The 29-year-old woman was walking in the 3100 block of Carlisle Street around 3:30 a.m. Monday off Millwood Avenue when she was hit by the truck, according to news reports. The Charleston woman died at the scene from chest and abdomen injuries.

It is unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the fatal, early morning pedestrian accident in Colombia. It is also unclear if the woman was walking along the sidewalk or if she was in the roadway at the time of the collision. The Columbia Police Department is investigating the incident, according to news reports.
