Authorities are investigating a single-vehicle crash that killed a motorist in Pickens County early Sunday morning, report media sources.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 2:55 a.m. when a 1996 Dodge pickup truck traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 123 veered off the road and rolled over about nine miles south of Easley.
The driver of the truck, identified as a 22-year-old Easley man, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Authorities say he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The Highway Patrol says that speed appears to have been a factor in the crash; however, the incident remains under investigation.

A woman narrowly missed being struck by a vehicle when it smashed into her Spartanburg apartment Friday night, report news sources.
According to Spartanburg Public Safety, the incident occurred shortly before 7 p.m. at a Pineneedle Drive complex. A 1996 Ford Taurus was traveling at about 40 miles per hour on the complex grounds when it struck a 2004 Chevrolet Impala head-on. The driver of the Taurus then exited the sedan, but left the vehicle in drive, say authorities. The car then rolled approximately 30 feet down an embankment and into the apartment building.
The woman inside the apartment was unharmed, but she was shaken up by the incident. The erstwhile driver of the errant car suffered minor injuries and now faces charges of driving too fast for conditions.

A man is facing driving under the influence and other charges after a Thursday night police pursuit in Surfside Beach that ended with a car colliding with a Horry County Police Department cruiser, report news sources.
The chase began when motorists reported seeing a seemingly intoxicated driver blocking traffic, traveling at extremely low speeds, and driving on the shoulder and through intersections without yielding. Surfside Beach Police officers located the suspect driving a 1994 Mercury two-door sedan and attempted to execute a traffic stop.
The suspect failed to yield to officers and instead began traveling southbound on U.S. 17. Officers gave chase and at one point deployed tire deflation measures. The pursuit ended when the suspect vehicle collided with a HCPD cruiser that had arrived to assist in the pursit.
The driver was arrested and is charged with DUI, failure to stop for blue lights, assault on a police officer, reckless driving, and disregarding a traffic signal.

An Anderson motorist died after a series of collisions in Abbeville County on Saturday evening, say news reports.
According the to South Carolina Highway Patrol, at around 4:44 p.m., a 2000 Ford pickup truck ran a stop sign at the intersection of Highway 71 and Highway 28, colliding first with a 2004 Ford driven by a Gray Court man, then with a 2008 four-door Nissan vehicle driven by an Abbeville man. The truck then veered off the road, struck a telephone pole and overturned.
The driver of the truck, a 54-year-old Anderson man who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the pickup. According to the Abbeville County Coroner’s Office, the driver died of multiple blunt trauma suffered during the crash.

Authorities are investigating the death of an Aiken County man who died Monday evening in a single vehicle crash, report news reports.
According to the Aiken County Coroner’s Office, the 20-year-old man was driving a 2001 Honda Passport sport utility vehicle westbound on Weeks Road when he attempted to negotiate a curve in the roadway. Authorities say that the vehicle was traveling too fast as it entered the curve and that the man, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident, was partially ejected from the vehicle during the crash.
The driver was declared dead at the scene of the crash of multiple body trauma. Officials found alcohol in the wrecked vehicle, said a Coroner’s Office spokesperson.
A toxicology report is pending, and the incident remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Fort Mill traffic along Interstate 77 was stalled briefly Tuesday morning after a collision involving a canoe partially blocked a lane, report news sources.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, sometime during the morning two vehicles, including one that was carrying a large canoe, were traveling on I-77 when one of the vehicles, reports did not specify which, changed lanes too quickly and struck the other vehicle.
Both vehicles were on the should at around 9 a.m. and the canoe had come to rest partly in the right travel lane. Traffic was affected slightly by the collision, which was eventually cleared.

A man and his daughter were hospitalized Tuesday morning after a two-vehicle collision on Interstate 26 near the Charleston peninsula, say media sources.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, just before 7 a.m. Both a 2002 Hyundai vehicle and a 2010 Toyota pickup truck were traveling eastbound on I-26 when the driver of the Hyundai, a 42-year-old Charleston woman, lost control of the Hyundai, causing it to collide with the Toyota. The collision caused the pickup to overturn.
The driver of the truck, a 33-year-old Summerville man, and a female passenger identified as his daughter were transported to a Charleston medical center with unspecified injuries. Both drivers were wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
The incident remains under investigation. The driver of the Hyundai has been charged with driving too fast for road conditions.

A Biscoe man is in custody after a late-night, high-speed chase in Horry County that reached speeds over 100 miles per hour Monday and lead to a police vehicle catching fire, report media sources.
According to the Horry County Police Department, at approximately 11:44 p.m., the chase began on Highway 501 in Myrtle Beach after a trooper attempted to pull over an sport utility vehicle. During the course of the chase, the SUV and the trooper’s vehicle collided near University Forest Drive. The police vehicle caught fire while the SUV sped off.
After the collision with the police vehicle, the SUV was involved in a crash with another car then headed toward Aynor, said a Horry County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson. Authorities finally brought the SUV to a halt and took the driver into custody in an area north of Conway on Highway 501 near Cook Road.
Authorities say the driver, a Biscoe man, was driving under a suspended license, and that neither the driver nor the trooper were hurt in the collision. The incident remains under investigation.

A motorcyclist died Saturday night after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a tree south of Anderson, report news sources.
According to authorities, at 5:20 p.m. the 22-year-old Starr man was riding a 1989 Kawasaki motorcycle in the 600 block of Airline Road, when the motorcycle collided with the tree. Drugs and a high rate of speed are suspected to be factors in crash, said an Anderson County Coroner’s office spokesperson. It is believed that the motorcycle was traveling at least 80 mph at the time of the crash.
The motorcyclist, who, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, was heading home from his girlfriend’s house at the time of the crash, died of blunt-force trauma to his chest, said the coroner’s official. The rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

A man is being charged with a fatal drinking and driving hit-and-run accident, according to news reports.
South Carolina Highway Patrol said the 52-year-old suspect was charged for a crash that occurred when he was fleeing deputies Wednesday. According to troopers, they were chasing the car on Highway 252 when it slammed into another vehicle during the chase.
Troopers said the suspect’s car had four people and a methamphetamine lab inside.
“Abbeville County deputies said Gaines crashed into the second vehicle about a mile away from where he was stopped. They said the deputy who stopped Gaines was the first official on the scene of the crash. The passenger of the second vehicle, 55-year-old Linda Williams, was thrown from the car and died at the scene, troopers said. They said Williams was not wearing a seat belt.”
The suspect was charged with two counts of felony DUI. A passenger was charged with manufacturing methamphetamine.
