Decomposition Prompts Recall of Frozen Ground Tuna

By Personal Injury Lawyer on October 14, 2011

In a news release Wednesday, Osamu Corporation announced, with the knowledge of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the recall of frozen ground tuna due to decomposition and elevated levels of histamine.

Subject to recall are up to 1,800 cases of the tuna with the lot number 7013. The recalled tuna may have decomposed meat, which poses the risk of histamine formation. Ingestion of histamine from food can lead to a variety of symptoms including facial swelling, a tingling or burning sensation in the mouth, hives, rash, itchy skin, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting.

The recall was initiated in response to testing done by the FDA that came back positive for decomposition in several samples and histamine in samples from one retail location. The recalled tuna was shipped to three distributers, two of which have sushi franchises in grocery stores.

Consumers who have purchased the frozen ground tuna should return it for a full refund. Anyone who is concerned whether sushi purchased contains the ground tuna should consult with the store where it was purchased.

While we don't handle this type of case, we feel that it's important to educate the community that there has been a recall to help protect your safety. If you have been injured by any defective item, you may want to search for a lawyer who handles these types of cases.
