One person was injured when her vehicle was clipped by a train in Lane, S.C. on Friday morning, according to news reports.
The accident occurred near the intersection of Third St. and Hwy. 377 in Lane, which is about 10 miles south of Kingstree in Williamsburg County when a woman was on her way to work at Kingstree Junior High School. As she came toward train tracks, the woman reportedly tried to cross before an oncoming train approached. She nearly made it through when the train crashed into the rear of her vehicle, taking off nearly the entire bumper and large portion of the back of the car.
The woman was able to driver her car home, and was then transported to a hospital by her daughter. She is expected to be OK.
South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers are charging the woman with going around the railroad gate and leaving the scene of an accident, both of which carry monetary fines.
As an Orangeburg car accident attorney, I’m glad to hear this woman is expected to be OK following this train accident. I urge drivers to only cross train tracks when it is safe and to always follow safety signs.
