A roadside safety check point in Anderson County resulted in a man attempting to ram a South Carolina Highway Patrol and run down a trooper, said the Department of Public Safety. The incident began when a pickup truck driver failed to stop for police. Police attempted to stop him, and finally stopped him. The pickup truck driver then sped his vehicle towards the troopers, who shot back at the vehicle. The truck was stopped later on US 76. The driver was hit by a bullet in his arm and underwent treatment. Two troopers were placed on administrative leave, and charges are being filed against the suspect. “I heard two different types of sirens and then I noticed there was a high-speed chase going on,” said a witness. “Next thing I knew, I heard officers say, ‘Hold it or I’ll shoot you.’ Next thing I know, it was being broke up and that’s it.” According to news reports, an investigation is underway.
