A 48-year-old man died last Tuesday morning when he was struck by a southbound CSX Railway train in Woodruff, S.C., according to news reports.
The accident occurred around at 2:20 a.m. Investigators said the Woodruff man left his house around 6:30 p.m. last Monday and was reportedly walking on US 221 towards Enoree around 11:15 p.m. He ended at the railroad tracks, which he was reportedly sitting on when the train approached.
The conductor saw the man and sounded the locomotive train whistles, but the man didn’t respond. The collision occurred around 2:20 a.m.
It is unclear why the man didn’t respond to the train. The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office has planned an autopsy and is waiting on toxicology results, according to news reports.
As an Orangeburg car accident lawyer, I’m saddened to hear about this fatal train accident. My condolences go out to the man’s friends and families who are affected by this tragic accident. I hope this tragic case reminds people to never cross train tracks at unmarked areas or hang around the tracks even when they think they aren’t in any danger. Trains are very dangerous and pedestrians should never walk along the tracks or near them. I hope investigators are able to determine how this pedestrian accident happened to ensure an accident like this never happens in the future.
