A local pastor who saved a man from a burning vehicle was honored by South Carolina Highway Patrol. “Highway patrol came to the church on Sunday and presented me with an award. They call it the hero award,” says pastor Johnny Byrd. “I always give God the credit. He’s the one that put me there.” The collision happened September 17th when the pastor heard about the crash from his daughter and immediately drove to the scene of the wreck. He found the man unconscious inside the vehicle. As the car began to catch fire, he got another passerby to help him extract the victim from inside the vehicle. They pulled the victim through the sunroof. “We began to pull and then the car exploded. And when it did, it blew us all back. I wouldn’t let go and it blew him out,” Byrd said. Paramedics arrived at the scene to treat the accident victim. Over half of his body had been burned, according to news reports, but thankfully he survived the wreck.
