The family of a man killed in an auto accident is suing the South Carolina Department of Public Safety. The wreck happened March 4th when a 91-year-old man was heading eastbound and tried to make a left turn. His SUV was broadsided by a police vehicle going 29mph over the speed limit without using sirens or flashing lights. The officer later plead guilty for driving too fast for conditions, then paid a $186 fine. The victim’s niece and nephew says the DPS was negligent in hiring the employee because he was involved in two crashes before being hired as a law enforcement officer. The family has now filed a wrongful death lawsuit, according to news reports.
As a car accident lawyer Moncks Corner, I look forward to hearing more about this case. My thoughts are with those who were harmed.
