One child is dead and another is hospitalized after a two-vehicle crash in the Lexington County community Red Bank on Friday night, say media outlets.
According to the Lexington County Coroner’s Office, the approximately 8:20 p.m. collision occurred when a 2000 Dodge truck traveling westbound on South Lake Drive collided with an eastbound 1992 Chevrolet Lumina that was turning into driveway. The crash happened near the intersection of South Lake Drive and Foxborough Boulevard.
A 7-year-old boy traveling in the Lumina was taken to a local medical center where he was pronounced dead of his injuries. His 10-year-old sister was also hospitalized and was listed in critical condition on Friday.
The driver of the truck, a 37-year-old Pelion man, faces two felony driving under the influence charges, one involving death, the other involving great bodily injury, and an open container charge. The incident remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
As a Beaufort car accident attorney, I have witnessed first-hand the shock and grief of those left behind after an unexpected death. My heartfelt condolences go out to the children’s family, friends and loved ones. I hope that they are getting all of the help and support they need during this challenging time. Being a Beaufort personal injury lawyer, I am well aware of the types of injuries that can be suffered in a traffic-related incident. I wish the sister a rapid recovery from her injuries.
